Beyond repair?

1st of all, wow! Exactly where has summer season long gone? How can it possibly be September by now???

This is only likely to be a quick blog, but I just wished to share a small fix position that I’ve been doing the job on right now. The consumer originally despatched me an email a few months in the past, as she’d been told by a significant road jeweller that her sentimental gold costume ring, was not equipped to be resized. Que that minor evil bit in my brain that just needs to confirm them incorrect and exhibit that it IS doable, and voila! A single resized garnet and pearl dress ring. Yes, it IS a sensitive ring, so she’s not going to be ready to don it each individual working day, but at the very least it now CAN be worn, somewhat than getting destined to sit in a box forever!

The ring in question - so beautiful!

The ring in issue – so gorgeous!

It’s 9ct gold, established with garnets and pearls and is incredibly fragile, but definitely not outside of repair. It is a “dress ring” and will under no circumstances have been meant to be worn all of the time.

Size L1/2 and needs to be a size N

Dimension L1/2 and desires to be a sizing N

The ring shank has some fragile engraving all all around it, and due to the fact it’s a really modest ring, the hallmark took up most of the accessible area, so I had to choose where to make the minimize very very carefully.

Adding the new gold

Introducing the new gold

It’s all thanks to my Dado laser welder below. It intended that I could include in a new part of gold and “weld” it in place with no risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleaning up

Once the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a circumstance of quite thoroughly cleansing up the joins.

Not forgetting the inside.

The newer gold alloy was a slightly unique colour, but it’ll all blend in with a polish.

Ready to wear!

Prepared to dress in!

Of course, you can see the sign up for if you look intently, but occasionally it’s not all about wholly hiding the new component. This ring was about preservation and creating it wearable all over again.

Polished and ready for many more years!

Polished and prepared for quite a few a lot more a long time!

A “very” careful polish so as not to injury those fragile pearls, or to clear away to a great deal of the character. In my viewpoint, it is right for an antique to glance as these types of!
